Join us for your internship!
You are almost done with your master’s program and are needing to find an internship where you can finally start practicing all of your learning. We believe that your choice of internships can be a great foundational step in your career as a therapist. So we are here to support you every step of the way. First, we want you to have all the hours you need in order to graduate, but secondly we want to give you good guidance so that your first steps in counseling are secure and supported.
We have an intern protocol in that we start with having you do training in ethics, mandatory reporting, stress tolerance and HIPAA compliance so that you understand your responsibilities. Then we have you observe some of our other counselors in action. This is not so that you will copy us, but rather so that you will see there are many ways to do great therapy. We want you to find your voice in the counseling room. After you observe you will be given a few clients. You will be given lots of feedback of how you are doing, and what you could be doing better. After that, we will let you have a full internship load of 10-15 clients per week. Consistently we will be going over video and notes to make sure that you are getting the support you need to be a great clinician.
Here are our internship requirements:
Working on master’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in clinical mental health counseling.
You will need to be willing to be at staff meetings and staff consultations group which meet on Wednesdays at noon.
If you meet these minimum requirements and want to move forward this is how to do it:
Send your resume and cover letter to sandra@lifecounselingandthearpy.org. In your cover letter please tell us about yourself, and why you think you would be a good fit for our agency.
