For the past five years, I have been working as a group facilitator in the domestic violence and anger management program here at Life Counseling. I am also the Family and Services Coordinator for Head Start of Yamhill County. I am a certified trainer in Nurturing Fathers, Making Parenting a Pleasure and Conflict Management.

Approach to Counseling

My approach to counseling is straight forward: we will discuss your issues and concerns and my goal is to help you see things from a different perspective; to illuminate new ideas within old problems; to look at difficulties and how they affect both emotions and behavior; look at your beliefs and messages you tell yourself within your problem. As we discover these thoughts, my hope is that will begin to unwind how you started with your issues from the beginning.

I resonate most with Attachment Theory. This theory in counseling states that we are affected by our early childhood relationships. These models of relationships were instilled within us and tend to affect our current relationships of today. Although this is not set in stone, without this understanding we can repeat cycles of relating that are unhealthy and not serving us well within our current relationships. Some of our exploration in the counseling room may be to talk about these early experiences and how they affect your view on the world today.

I spend time explaining what I know to my clients. I have discovered that many people when they come to counseling do not want just a person to listen to them (although listening is also important), but they want to know how they can change their lives and make things better. I use handouts, illustrations and sometimes even give out homework to continue the process while you are home. My goal is to help you improve your relationships with those around you and heal from past abuses from others.
